Phumelele Makatini

Director

Ms. Makatini holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Strategy and Innovation from the University of Oxford Saïd Business School in the UK, a Masters of Management in Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation (MMENVC) from the University of Witwatersrand Business School, an Honours in Political Science from the University of Johannesburg (UJ) and a BA in Communication Science from the University of South Africa (UNISA).

She is an Executive Director at Vacccicorp Africa and former CEO of the Health Funders Association, as well as former CEO of the Building and Construction Industry Medical Aid Fund (BCIMA). Ms Makatini has held an Executive role at Metropolitan Health Group. She is the former Vice-Chairman of the Legal Practitioners Fidelity Fund (assets under management >R7 billion) and former Trustee of the South African Post Office Retirement Fund (assets under management >R15 billion). She is currently an Independent Non- Executive Director at Matrix Fund Managers (assets under management >R30 billion).

Ms. Makatini has extensive experience in health, financial services, consulting and tech industries. She has held different executive and senior management roles in government relations, business development and strategy in some blue-chip companies. She is also an entrepreneur who is passionate about education and once held the role of Academic Independent Contractor at UNISA and visiting lecturer at Wits Business School.
