Dr Dungu is a qualified South African veterinarian, with a PhD in vaccinology and microbiology (University of Pretoria) and over 30 years of international experience in vaccine research, development, manufacturing and commercialisation in both commercial and not-for profit sector. Dr Dungu is since 2014 the Head of Strategy and Business Development at MCI Santé Animale, a large African biopharmaceutical company.

From 2008 until 2013 he was Senior Director R&D for GALVmed (Global Alliance for Livestock Veterinary Medicines), based in UK. He was responsible for the scientific strategic direction of the organisation, and he oversaw product development activities which included a portfolio of 24 products through partnerships with more than 50 institutions around the world.

He is currently an Executive Director and co-founder of Vaccicorp Africa. Dr Dungu is the former CEO of Onderstepoort Biological Products (OBP) located in Pretoria South Africa and previously Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Operations Officer at the very same organisation. From 1992 to 2001 he worked at ARC-Onderstepoort Veterinary Institute first as a researcher, then as head of the FMD vaccine development and production division. Dr Dungu is currently serving his third term of 6 members of the Scientific Commission of the World Organisation for animal health (OIE).

Dr Dungu has conducted consultancies for multiple international agencies such as the FAO, OIE, EU, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF), African Union etc serving also on several disease specific Ad Hoc groups, including the one on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR).

He is a member of the newly created One Health High Level Panel of Experts established by the WHO, FAO, OIE and UNEP. He is also a board member of the International Veterinary Vaccinology Network and has authored over 40 peer reviewed publications, one patent and few book chapters.
